Let us sing with the angels, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests." (Luke 2:14) What a wonderful time of the year when we celebrate the miraculous and glorious birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. And I am so thankful to be able to share this time with my family and friends. I didn't know what this Christmas would bring, but God knew and I am so grateful for my faith in Him instilled in me by my godly parents years ago.
I received a wonderful Christmas gift in the mail on Saturday - a letter from my donor!!! It was short but very sweet and I cried when I read it. What a blessing that man has been to my life. I pray someday I will be able to meet him in person.
Everything is going well. Still having bloodwork every other week-once a month in St. Louis and the other time with Dr. Hoos' office. Still am taking Pantamidene treatment and Immunoglobulin treatments once a month at the hospital here. Some blood counts are still low but it just takes time to build them up again. Strength is improving. I have been to church three out of the last four Sundays. Wear the mask and don't hug...that is hard (not to hug).
Family will be here on Christmas day. We have our big meal at Thanksgiving and on Christmas day we have finger foods, etc. Just munch all day and evening. Sort of fun....
I want to thank all of you for your continued prayers and support. I would not be celebrating with my family this Christmas if it weren't for your prayers. We serve an amazing God who truly loves us and cares about every detail of our lives. My family and I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a God-filled New Year.

What beautiful verses and beautiful promises from the Psalmist.
I trust all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. My family was all healthy so they could be here for Thanksgiving dinner - in the evening. Some of them were here for most of the afternoon but we didn't eat until evening. We have a tradition of before we sit down to the table, we stand around it, hold hands, and then each one tells something they are thankful for. It was quite an emotional time this year and one I won't soon forget. I pray that my thanksgiving shows everyday through thanksliving. God is so good to us even in our unworthiness. Praise and thanks be to Him!
This past Sunday I went to church at Glendale for the first time in almost 5 months. Dr. DiPersio said for me to take every precaution I could if I got out. So I went in with the "duck-billed" mask on and only got a couple of chides about it. :) Our minister asked that people not hug me but to say "hi" from a distance. So there were a lot of waves and some kisses blown. I appreciate them being so thoughtful of my needs at this time. But it will be great to be able to give and receive those hugs on Sunday morning. It was GREAT to be back! I am so thankful!
Yesterday I had blood work done at the Lab at Whiteside Medical Building and then went to St. John's for another Pantamidene treatment. The treatment went fine once they got the orders and got the medicine ordered. Someday they will get this all figured out... I am gaining more strength but still have shortness of breath when climbing steps or doing anything. Just have to sit and re-coup.
What a blessing all of you have been to me through this whole process. Some of you comment on the blog and others say you read it but don't comment. That is all good. The real blessing is your continued prayers for me and for my family. I pray God's blessings upon all of you.

Day +130
"Thank the Lord because He is good. His love continues forever." (Psalm 107:1)
It has been a while since I have blogged but I want to write when there is a medical update. A dear friend from church, Norma, drove me to St. Louis yesterday for blood work and to see Dr. Dipersio. Blood work was good - some counts still high and some still low but all in all he was pleased. He took me off of one of the anti-rejection drugs, CellCept, and reduced the other anti-rejection drug. I see him again in a month with blood work every two weeks. I am continuing the Pantamedine treatments for a year (once a month) and also the Immunoglobulin treatments. He told me I could get out in public some but to protect myself as best I could. He said if someone is about to sneeze around me, run. Lord willing, I am going to try to go to church on Sunday.
We have so much to be thanful for everyday of our lives, but this Thanksgiving I am especially grateful for what God has done in my life this past 15 months. I stand in amazement! And I owe a debt of gratitude to all of you who have been so faithful in praying for me and my family. We serve an awesome God who is aware of everything that happens in our lives, and He Cares.
May you all have a wonderful day of giving thanks with your family and friends is my prayer.

Thursday - Day 120
Dear Friends and Family,
"Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget none of His benefits; Who pardons all your iniquities; Who heals all your diseases; Who redeems your life from the pit; Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion; Who satisifies your years with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle." (Psalm 103:1-5) What a blessing to know the Lord and have Him in our lives every day, but especially when we are going through sickness and other trials in our lives.
As you can tell, I have not been blogging like Barb did but some days are uneventful as far as sharing on the blog. In fact, a friend in Ky. said she wasn't even checking the blog anymore because she thought I wasn't writing on it any more. To those of you who might check once in a while, I had another Immunoglobulin infusion yesterday at St. John's. Everything went well. They also drew blood so I won't have to make another trip to Dr. Hoos' office just for blood work.
A couple from West Plains, MO shared the room with us yesterday. Her name is Marsha and I think her husband's name was Terry. She had a stem cell transplant in St. Louis in May using her own stem cells but it didn't work very well. She is having some problems now. It is amazing how God puts people in our lives when we least expect it. She was encouraged to hear my testimony of what God has done in my life through bouts with cancer. You know, we don't have to preach at people. All we have to do many times is share what God has done in our lives. Share our faith in Him. Please pray for Marsha and her family.
Thanks to everyone for your continued calls, cards, visits, food brought in and especially prayers. Bill Yoes, one of the elders at Glendale, brought by a video Tuesday night that the young people on Wed. nights had made for me. They sang, read scripture, and had sweet comments to me. Needless to say, I cried some tears. Our youth praise band, "Reality", from Glendale was also on the video and they are so good. It is wonderful to see young people using the talents God has given them to glorify Him!!
Please continue to pray for gaining of strength and stamina and for patience. I miss being in church and out with family and friends. But "this, too, shall pass" as my Momma used to say.

Day 111
"Rejoice in the Lord always. And again I say, 'Rejoice'". (Phil. 4:4)
Dear Friends and Family,
I am REJOICING again after hearing from the bone marrow biopsy. There is NO sign of cancer; all cells are normal. Plus, I am still at 100% donor cells which is great! There is a possibility of losing some cells, but so far, so good. We certainly serve an amazing God! How I thank Him and how I thank all of you for your prayers and support!
Yesterday was a beautiful day in the Ozarks and I went outside and walked a little ways down the street and back. Most of the week is supposed to be nice so I am planning to walk some every day, if possible. Of course, I will be wearing the mask, cap, and jacket even if it is warm. By the way, the hair is coming back in but I am not sure what it is doing exactly. Maybe a little more time will tell. At least it is coming back in.
People have been so kind to bring food in. It is all been very good and very helpful.
No doctor's appointments or treatments this week. So just a week of trying to gain strength.
Please rejoice with me over the great news and continue to pray for daily strength and patience. I miss being in church and around friends and family.

Day 103 Post Transplant

Dear Family and Friends,
That is what I am doing...REJOICING!!! As you know, we went to St. Louis Sunday evening for early appointsments on Monday morning. I had a Pet Scan, blood work, saw Dr. DiPersio and Stephanie (PA) and had a bone marrow biopsy that afternoon. When I saw Dr. DiPersio, he had the results of the Pet Scan and said there was NO evidence of lymphoma!!! And he expected the bone marrow biopsy to show the same; although we won't hear from it for a few days. Blood work was within limits but still low. He wants me to have it checked every two weeks - here and then in St. Louis. It was a very long day and very tiring, but what wonderful news! We serve and awesome God!
BJ and I saw Lynn and Beverly Kelly at the Siteman Cancer center. That was a wonderful surprise. They had brought Lynn's brother-in-law up for an appointment. No hugs, just lots of smiles...
As you can tell, I am not blogging as much now that I am home and mainly trying to gain strength and not catch a cold or any of the viruses going around. But I will let you know when I hear from the biopsy.
I can never thank all of you enough for all of your prayers and support. I wouldn't be where I am today if not for your prayers to our God on my behalf. I love you all...

Thursday - + 90
Today I want to use the entire Psalm of praise of David - Psalm 145. Please read it and reflect on God's greatness and power. Praise be to Him!
On Wednesday I had to be at St. John's at 9:00 a.m. for the immunoglobulin infusion. BJ took me to the hospital because she had to go into work at noon. At 12:00 noon, they started the infusion. God is really teaching me patience through all of this. Seems the orders were not there and once they got the orders, it took pharmacy some time to mix the drug. Thank the Lord, there were no problems with the infusion this time; just took much longer than we had expected. Julie, a friend of mine, picked me up at the hospital and brought me home. It was a very tiring day.
Then Linda Marquis from Glendale called and brought dinner over. We visited for a while and it was great to see her after several months. Dinner was delicious!
Today, I saw Dr. Hoos for bloodwork and a checkup. Some counts were lower than they were in St. Louis last week but he said they all looked fairly good. Some we will watch...He said I am doing so well, that unless something happens or St. Louis says otherwise, he doesn't need to see me until the middle of December. By the way, my daughter Jessica was able to leave work a little early today to take me to the appointment. She didn't mind that at all...

Sunday - Day 87
"One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple. For in the day of trouble, He will keep me safe in His dwelling; He will hide me in the shelter of His tabernacle and set me high upon a rock." Psalm 27:4,5
What a blessing to know that God will keep us safe and shelter us in times of trouble.
Here is my first try at blogging...sister Barb has gone home and left it all up to me. I want to thank her for all of the blogs she wrote and for all of the journaling she did during the three months she was here. Most of all, I want to thank her for her care and devotion to my care while she was here. She truly has a servant's heart and a caregiver's heart. Thank you, Barb, I love you and am thankful you are my sister.
Barb and I left for St. Louis on Friday morning about 6:30. Of course, it rained most of the way, but we made it just in time for my appointment at 10:30. The blood work showed that platelets and hemoglobin were up from the last blood work done at Dr. Hoos'. That is a good sign. Stephanie (physicians asst.) was real pleased with how everything is going and is anxious to see the results of the Pet Scan and bone marrow biopsy which will both be done on the 26th of Oct. in St. Louis. They are concerned about the contact that I have with people right now because of all of the flu and germs floating around. So it seems I may be spending most of the winter at home. I certainly wouldn't want to get the flu and undo everything I have been through.
Tomorrow, one of my brother's and his wife are coming from Glasgow, Ky. to spend some time with me and to visit Branson. I'm anxious to see them; just don't want any Ky. germs. Ha
This week I have an immunoglobulin treatment on Wed. at St. John's. It is about a four hour infusion. Then I see Dr. Hoos on Thurs.
I will be giving updates as needed, but not every day. Thank you for your continued prayers and support. The prayers of God's people have gotten me this far. Please continue to pray for me to gain strength, to not pick up any viruses, and for patience.

Oct. 6 Day +82
I John 3:1 "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called chilfren of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him."
There isn't a lot to report from here the last few days. Becky is continuing to do well and is gaining strength. She walked to the mailbox yesterday for the first time since she got home. She is able to do more things around the house too. She is trying to do more for herself since I'm planning on going home on Friday after the doctor's appointment in St. Louis, unless something happens between now and then.
We had a storm this morning and got a lot of good rain. The temperatures have cooled off and it's good weather for soup so that's what we're making today. A big pot of vegetable soup and a pot of chili are on the stove. There should be enough to freeze for meals after Barb leaves.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Josie Herren and her family this evening as they have visitation and services for Norm at Glendale Christian Church. He will be missed here but the family knows that he is with the Lord now and not suffering.
Unless something "happens" around here Becky will post again on Friday or Saturday. No news is good news for now.

Oct. 4
BJ and Barb went to church at Glendale this morning at the 8:30 service and enjoyed the time of worship and a good message by Jeff Coon from Mark 11:22-26 on prayer that can move mountains with faith if we accept God's promises, know God's character, and ask in God's will, with the right motives, the right source, and the right shield. It really gave us a lot to think about the "mountains" that are in our lives and how we can move those mountains.
Becky stayed at home today and had her own service here. With all the "bugs" that are going around she decided it was best for her to not be out in public. We were also talking to Norma today at church and she mentioned that the FluMist is a "live" vaccine and wondered about Becky being around people who have had it. I did some research when I got home and the "FluMist" (nasal spray vaccine) is a live vaccine and so anyone that has had that type of flu vaccine CANNOT be around Becky for 4 weeks after having it. Please pass this word along and hopefully people will understand and not be around her. She said she may have to just stay in the house all winter because she won't know who's had it or not. Interesting dilemma!!

Oct. 3
Numbers 6:24-26 "The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace."
Today has been a cooler day here in the MO. The sun is shining but the air is cool. It's even cooler in the house because the furnace won't kick on for some reason. We have a repairman here now trying to get it to work. Becky has been wrapped in a blanket for most of the afternoon watching the Cardinals on TV. Hopefully it will be fixed in a little while.
Becky continues to get stronger but still has a long way to go. I don't think she's going to try and go to church in the morning. It's suppose to be cold and raining so she doesn't need to be out in the weather. She also needs to avoid as much contact with people as possible and there will be a lot of "hugs" when she gets back to church. She went in St. Louis but no one knew us and there wasn't the close contact she'll have here. She will want to hug as well as be hugged so better wait a little while longer. I'm sure everyone will understand.
Not much other news from here. The girls are all walking in a cancer walk tonight in Springfield in honor of their mother. I hope the weather stays nice for them tonight. We pray all will have a good day of worship tomorrow. Remember that worship is not what we get out of church but what we give to God.

Today has been a cooler day here in the MO. The sun is shining but the air is cool. It's even cooler in the house because the furnace won't kick on for some reason. We have a repairman here now trying to get it to work. Becky has been wrapped in a blanket for most of the afternoon watching the Cardinals on TV. Hopefully it will be fixed in a little while.
Becky continues to get stronger but still has a long way to go. I don't think she's going to try and go to church in the morning. October 2 Day +78
Psalm 75:1 "We give thanks to you, O God, we give thanks, for your Name is near; men tell of your wonderful deeds."
We continue to thank God for all He is doing in Becky's life. She is gaining strength again each day. She has been able to do more today but has to rest after any little activity. The 5 days of fever and diarrhea really took their toll on her but the Lord is good and continues to provide the strength she needs.
She had the Pentamidine treatment yesterday at St. John's and it took longer than we expected. They can't order the medicine to be mixed until she gets there and then when they did call it there was a mix up in the pharmacy and it didn't get to the floor for quite a while. The tech as well as Becky and I were getting a little tired of waiting but it finally got done. The tech said it shouldn't take as long next time but she wouldn't make any promises. We think she only has 2 more of these but that will be up to the doctor's in St. Louis.
BJ was off again yesterday and she worked in the garage and I helped with a few tasks here at the house. Becky sat and rested and "supervised". Today Becky has been on the computer a little answering some emails and reading others that I had saved for her. We have discussed her going to church on Sunday but haven't decided if that's the best thing for her right now. We're just taking one day at a time.

Sept. 30

We are praising the Lord tonight that Becky has had a good day with no fever, nausea, or vomiting. She is still weak but is gaining her strength back some. She has been up since about 9 this morning and has eaten well today. Rachel and the children came by this afternoon and spent a little time with her and that made her feel better. Becca had learned to ride her bike and gotten her ears pierced since Becky was gone and it was a thrill for Becky to see her and Becca and Allen to show off on the bikes for MeMe. It was pretty this afternoon so Becky sat out on the porch for a little bit with her mask on.
Becky was saddened to hear of the death of Norm Herren, a good friend from church, and also the mother of Jan Ellison, a friend from Nixa. We send our thoughts and prayers to both families during this time.

Sept. 29 Day +75
Psalm 62:5-8 says, " Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; He is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge."
Becky had a more restful night last night with the fever finally gone. She also had finally gotten the diarrhea under better control with some Imodium. She had a little this morning but is doing a lot better this afternoon. It was evidently caused by the Augmentin which was stopped yesterday. We saw Dr. Hoos this afternoon and he said things seemed to be going well. He said she "looked good" but to me she looks worse than she did last week but he didn't see her then. Hopefully things are turning around and she will begin to get stronger now. Her counts had dropped again from Friday but with 3 days of being sick that's not unusual.
When we got home she ate some "Jigglers" and proceeded to throw them up within 10 minutes, so was given a half a Phenergan and then 15 minutes later ate a baked potato and bacon and has felt fine since. She's still really weak since she hasn't eaten much in the last 3 days. She also ate a grilled cheese sandwich for supper. We'll see how things set this evening now.
We pray that the fever will stay gone and she will be able to gain her strength back in the next few days. She says, "I'm really tired of being sick, but I guess it could be a lot worse!"

Sept. 28
Just another quick update. I called Dr. Hoos' office this afternoon and talked to his nurse and she relayed a message to and from him. Becky has gotten more exercise today than she wanted going back and forth to the bathroom. One of the "benefits" of Augmentin. Dr. Hoos stopped the antibiotic and said to give her Imodium and he will see her tomorrow afternoon. She has not had a fever since 10:00 this morning so that's a good thing. The preliminary blood culture reports are negative so another good thing. She is getting so weak from not eating and things going right through her if she does eat. She is trying to keep drinking liquids so she doesn't dehydrate with all the diarrhea. Hopefully we'll have more news tomorrow evening.

Sept. 27
I know it's late but thought I'd do a quick update before trying to get a few hours sleep. Becky has continued to run fever off and on during the day. It will go down with the Tylenol but goes back up in 4-6 hours. I am going to try and call Dr. Hoos' in the morning and see if we can get her in there tomorrow instead of Tuesday. She is now having some nausea, vomiting and diarrhea but she says that Augmentin does that to her anyway and is attributing it all to the antibiotic of course these are also symptoms of GVHD also. Hopefully she will be seen tomorrow and we'll get some answers about the fever and from the blood cultures done on Friday.

Sept. 26 Day +72
Philippians 4:4-7 says, "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
We had a long night with orders to take temperature every 2 hours but she is feeling some better this afternoon. Yesterday she didn't want to be up at all, spent most of the day in bed and didn't want to eat anything but did take fluids, but today she is up in the recliner and has had a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast and a bowl of potato soup for lunch. They told me yesterday that I could only give Tylenol for 24 hours so I called again today to see if we could extend that since she was better and the "fellow" on call said it would be OK but not too much. She has still had some fever but has only had 4 doses of Tylenol in 24 hours so is doing OK with that.
The children had planned a welcome home supper tonight but that had to be postponed and she had planned on going to church tomorrow but that's not going to happen either. We will do our own church service here again tomorrow morning and hopefully she'll feel better by next Sunday.
She has an appointment with Dr. Hoos here on Tuesday so we are praying she can improve enough that we won't need to see anyone before that time. Continue to pray that the antibiotic will do it's job and she'll see more improvement.

Update of 9/25
Becky has had a rough day. She went back to bed after breakfast this morning and slept 2 1/2 hours and when she got up she had a fever of 101.3. They had told us in St. Louis that any temp over 101, we should call immediately which I did. I had to call again and talked to a receptionist that went and got a nurse on the line. She told me to give her some Tylenol ( they had told us earlier NOT to give it) and to call the local oncologist and see if they would evaluate her. Dr. Hoos was out but she was able to get in to see the Nurse Practitioner at 4:00 and they did blood and drew blood cultures as suggested by St. Louis. The labs showed that there was some changes from Monday's lab and it indicated, according to the NP, that there was an infection in her body. She examined her thoroughly and faxed a RX for Augmentin to Wal Mart Pharmacy and said if she wasn't better in 24 hours to call the doctor on call and would probably be admitted. When we got home I made a call to St. Louis and the "Fellow" on call said to watch her closely and call him if she did not improve and they would have her transferred to St. Louis.
Please pray that the antibiotic will do it's job and get rid of the infection and the fever will stay down. It is now 98.9 with Tylenol in her. I will try and keep you posted.

Sept. 25 Day +71
Sorry I didn't get around to blogging yesterday but was busy with things here. Becky didn't feel well all day yesterday. Achy and a slight headache and spent most of the day on the couch and in the recliner. She felt warm about 2:30 with a temp of 99.8 and then it went to 100.8 about 5:15. We are suppose to call St. Louis if it goes over 101 so we kept a close watch on her last evening. She had one Tylenol at 5:15 and her temp was 99.4 at 7 pm and stayed down the rest of the evening. We're not sure what caused the fever but it is definitely something that we'll keep a close eye on. She was fine this morning with a temp of 98.9 but has gone back to bed after breakfast for a little while. I think she may have overdone it with the trip home and wanting to get back in her routine here. Being home makes her feel better but she needs to realize she's definitely not well just because she's here. She's been working on my patience and now I'm going to have to work on hers! We'll keep you posted.

Sept. 23 Day +69

Becky said this morning, "It was so good to sleep in my own bed!" She got up about 8 or so this morning and has been up for most of the day. I think she finally slept on the couch for about 15 minutes this afternoon late. All three of the girls came by at sometime today and visited. She sure did enjoy being at home and visiting with them and they are thrilled that she's home too.
We finished putting things away today and BJ was off work and did a little more cleaning. Barb took the keyboards back to the church that people had let Becky use while in St. Louis and Jessica met Barb there and helped her unload them for Dana Ray to return. Thanks again to Mr. Grimm and Sarah Pence for the use of them. They helped in the healing process too.
They called from Dr. Hoos' office and she has an appointment with him on Sept. 29 with lab at 1:30 and appointment at 2:30, a Pentamidine (antibiotic) treatment at St. John's Hospital on Oct. 1 and the immunoglobulin treatment on Oct. 14 also at St. John's . She will also see Dr. Hoos that week but not sure of the date.
She is pretty tired this evening but has been busy supervising the activities here. Hopefully she'll sleep well again tonight.

For Becky's health we are providing these guidelines which the doctor's have given us:
Please do not visit if you now have or have had a cold, cough or fever in the last week.
If your child has had a live vaccine (MMR or Varicella) in the last month please do not bring them to visit.
If you have had the Shingles vaccine or any other "live" vaccine in the last month do not visit.
Please call before coming to visit. She is looking forward to seeing everyone again but may have days when she isn't feeling well and would prefer not to have company.
Hand sanitizer will be made available at the house when you come in, so please use it before making any contact with Becky. She is really susceptible to germs at this time.

Sept. 22 Day +68 HOME!!!
Becky said to include a specific word in the verse tonight so I found Revelation 19:6b,7a which says, "Hallelujah!! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory!" She is so glad to be sitting in her recliner in her home in front of her TV.
We left St. Louis about 8:50 this morning and would have been away at 8 if the office to had been open so we could give them the keys, fobs and parking passes. We had a few sprinkles of rain on the way home but no problems otherwise. We stopped a couple times to rest and had lunch in Lebanon, MO at Western Sizzlin' and the waitress was very helpful in getting Becky a salad and rolls from the kitchen since she can't eat off of salad bars.
We made it home at 1:05 and the puppies were thrilled to see us. They barked, howled and jumped on us. They also had to make several trips outside this afternoon since there was someone to let them out now. Barb got the car unloaded and most of the things put away.
Becky was pretty worn out from the trip and rested most of the afternoon in the recliner. After supper we have just been relaxing and watching some of the new shows on TV with all of us in recliners and the puppies on their couch.
Becky said when we drove up to the house that she wondered when she left July 8th if she would ever see home again but the Lord has been gracious to her and continues to provide healing in her life. Thank you for all your support and prayers.

Sept. 21 Day + 67
Dr. DiPersio gave his "blessing" so we are heading to Ozark tomorrow!! We got to the hospital for labs about 9:05 and they took her back and decided to just take the blood from her arm instead of trying the catheter. She was out in less than 10 minutes!!
We then went to the doctor's office and got in at the appointment time of 10:00. The nurse came in and said she had been trying to get in touch with Dr. Hoos' office but they had not called her back yet. A new doctor working with Dr. DiPersio then came in and examined Becky and asked about her going home. Dr.DiPersio then came in and said are you ready to go home? Of course Becky answered with a quick "Yes". He said that she would have to watch carefully for the signs of Graft vs Host Disease now because one of the drugs given in the hospital, that kept the symptoms at bay, is now leaving her system so she will be more likely to have symptoms now. A rash and severe diarrhea are the main symptoms she needs to watch for.
We refilled her prescriptions that are due next week while we were at the hospital. They also made her an appointment for Oct. 9 to see the Nurse Practitioner and the 26th for Dr. DiPersio, a PET CT and a bone marrow biopsy all on the same day. That will be a full day and it will start at 7:30 am so it will be an overnighter but at least it can all be done on the same day.
She then went to Intervention Radiology and had the catheter removed with only local anesthetic. She was finished in about 30 minutes and we were back to the apartment by 12:45. We had lunch and now Barb is trying to do all the laundry and get things packed. Jan Schmitt is coming by this evening to help Barb load the "weighted" keyboard and take the bowls and pans she loaned us that were not in the apartment.

Sept. 20 Day + 66
We got up this morning and drove to Kirkwood Road Christian Church about 15 minutes away. We were a little early but better early than late. The service was more what we were used to than the one last Sunday but sometimes we need to get out of our comfort zone like last week. The minister had a good sermon on Matthew titled "Christ's Compelling Call" from Matt. 9:9-13. He did a good job and gave us a lot to think about how Christ accepts those that others reject and we have to realize we are sick (in sin) to be made well in Christ.
We stopped at Wendy's on the way home and got some chili since it was raining and a little cooler. We also had some Frito's that we needed to use up and they were great in the chili. It was pretty spicy but we both enjoyed it.
The afternoon has been spent watching a Payne Stewart special and football on TV. It's been a lazy day but tomorrow will be busy enough that we don't feel bad resting today. We'll blog again tomorrow afternoon after we get back from the doctor with a medical report. Becky said that if Dr. DiPersio doesn't "bless" her tomorrow, she might have to "bless" him. Ha!! (You all know she wouldn't do that anyway). She's really ready to head home.
Becky has another trivia question for you this evening that is in the Amplified Bible and also in the New American Standard Version. Who was the first person mentioned to "twitter" in the Bible? Maybe it's not such a new concept after all!

Sept. 19 Day + 65

Today has been a day of trying to do a little cleaning in preparation for leaving here next week. I did some laundry too. We tried to see the balloon race but not sure if they did it or not since it looked like rain most of the day and I never spotted a balloon. I did some research trying to find a church near us and think we have found one about 15 minutes away that we're going to tomorrow morning.
Becky has felt better today and really enjoyed a visit with Dana Ray, a friend and Children's Director at Glendale Christian Church in Springfield where Becky attends. She had been attending a women's conference here and stopped by on her way home. We're praying for her safety traveling home.
Not much other news from here. We're anxious to close things up here and head west next week. Pray that things will continue to go well and the doctor will give his "blessing" to her going home.
We pray all will have an open mind and heart as we enter the Lord's house to worship tomorrow.

Sept. 18 Day + 64
If you haven't already found the answer to the trivia question from yesterday, it's found in Hebrews 7:1-3 which says, "This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, his name means "king of righteousness"; then also, " king of Salem" means "king of peace." Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, like the Son of God he remains a priest forever." Some have learned they can "google" our trivia, but at least they're looking for the answer.
Today we went to Forest Park and walked a while and then just drove through the park and looked at the beautiful scenery. They are getting ready for a balloon race tomorrow afternoon starting from the park with about 70 hot air balloons. We are hoping to be able to see some of it from the apartment since there will be a crowd at the park and Becky doesn't need to be out in that large of a crowd and I don't want to drive over there and get in that either.
While out, we took a different route home and ended up on Hampton Ave. near a Steak and Shake and stopped for lunch. We all had the same thing from the $4 menu but Becky and BJ haven't felt well all afternoon. I must have an iron stomach!! Ha!! We also played 6 games of Sequence with BJ winning 3, Becky 2 and Barb 1. Some people are just too competitive!!Ha!!
Barb fixed a roast with potatoes, carrots, onions and celery, green beans and biscuits for supper. BJ just left with a car full of stuff that we had collected up here in the last 2 months. This will make it easier for us to get home next week when we're able to go without anyone coming up to help us.
Becky has appreciated all the cards and notes but since she's going home next week, any future correspondence can be sent to 121 Hedgerow Dr. Ozark, MO 65721. She is really getting anxious to be back home.

Today we went to Forest Park and walked a while and then just drove through the park and looked at the beautiful scenery. They are getting ready for a balloon race tomorrow afternoon starting from the park with about 70 hot air balloons. We are hoping to be able to see some of it from the apartment since there will be a crowd at the park and Becky doesn't need to be out in that large of a crowd and I don't want to drive over there and get in that either.

Sept. 17 Day +63
Becky came up with another trivia question for you this morning when she was doing her devotional. This one may be easier then the last one. Question: What is the name of the priest in the Bible who was "without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life." Answer tomorrow night.
Becky didn't sleep well last night, which was expected after the steroids she got for the reaction yesterday. She worked Sudoku until midnight and then was up at 3:30 again. She has managed to stay awake all day so maybe she'll sleep tonight.
BJ got here about 10:30 for a much needed rest from cleaning house in Ozark for Becky's homecoming. Barb went to the grocery and to get the car washed and BJ and Becky went to play Wii. They enoyed their game but I think BJ enjoyed it more since she won.
After lunch we decided on going to a movie to see Julie & Julia at a theater close. There were only 8 of us in the theater so Becky wasn't in a crowd for sure!! It was an enjoyable movie to see though. We've had a good laugh too about the 2 older ladies who came in late and sat down by us and the one lady sitting by Barb fell asleep and almost used Barb's shoulder as her pillow.
After supper Becky played the keyboard while Barb cleaned up the kitchen. I tease her that it's no different now than it was when we were growing up. She always had to practice about dishes time. She denies it though.
Not much else going on tonight. Working on crossword puzzles and sudoku and will probably watch a movie. The Cardinals have a night off so it's going to be hard finding something to do . We might turn in early tonight.

Sept. 16 Day +62
Isaiah 25:1 " O Lord, Thou art my God; I will exalt Thee, I will give thanks to Thy name; For Thou hast worked wonders, plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness". We have had quite a day but still give thanks to God for all that he has done for us.
We got to the hospital about 8:45 and they took her to the lab about 8:55. She didn't come back for almost an hour and then said they weren't able to get any blood from the 3 lumens and had to use her arm. She had also gotten sick and vomited when they layed her down to change the dressing on the catheter. She walked to the Bone Marrow treatment area and they took her back to give the immunoglobulin. Since they couldn't get a blood return from any of the lumens they had to do an IV in her right hand to give the infusion. She was doing well and all of a sudden she started chilling after they had turned up the infusion. They put 3 warmed blankets on her and when she hadn't stopped chilling after 5 minutes they stopped the drug and called the doctor for orders. The NP finally called back and ordered SoluMedrol ( a steroid) for the chills which was a reaction to the drug. After about 10 minutes they restarted the immunoglobulin and finished it.
All this took a lot longer than expected and we were 45 minutes late for the Nurse Practitioners appointment scheduled at 2. We finally saw her about 3:15 and she said things were going well. She scheduled an appointment to have the catheter removed on Monday following the lab and appointment with Dr. DiPersio. Monday will be another long day. At least she won't have to take so long to have the blood drawn since they will use her arm,but she also will have to use the arm or hand for lab draws weekly which is no fun for her either.
The good news from the day was that Stephanie, the ANP, said that she had talked with Dr.DiPersio and it is still a go for heading home to Ozark on Wednesday. She will see Dr. Hoos in Springfield on the 30th and also get a Pentamadine, antibiotic, treatment there. Becky's next appointment in St. Louis will be Oct. 9th with Stephanie and then Oct. 26th with Dr. DiPersio with Dr. Hoos visits in between. PTL!!!!
We are both tired this evening and she's already in her night clothes. It's been a long day. Usually after receiving a steroid, she is wired and unable to sleep but we hope that doesn't happen tonight. She needs her rest after the long day.

Sept. 15 Day +61
Some of you have already emailed that you found the trivia answer but for those who haven't here's the verse. Isaiah 7:18 says, "And it will come about in that day, that the Lord will whistle for the fly that is in the remotest part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria." We always have enjoyed listening to our Dad whistle and found it interesting that our heavenly Father also whistled.
Today has really been a lazy day for Becky. She didn't even get her shower and dressed until after 2:00. She said tomorrow was going to be a busy day at the hospital so today was going to be a day of doing nothing.
I got up this morning and went to the Beauty Shop for a much needed cut and then came back and started some laundry. I also did a quick run to the post office for a change of address form and also to the grocery for some milk, bread and etc. I actually forgot the roast that I went after that Becky wanted me to get. Another trip later in the week.
We are getting settled in tonight for the Cardinals game and then will try and get to bed early for the day ahead. Please pray they can access the catheters easily and she will not have any reaction to the immunoglobulin. God continues to provide for all our needs and shower His blessings on us.

Sept. 14 Day +60
Becky continues to count the days until the Nurse Practitioner said she could go home. Of course it all depends on the "blessing" of Dr. DiPersio but we don't see any reason why he wouldn't do that. We have had a day of rest today and haven't done too much of anything. We did order one of her meds at the pharmacy since they have to get it from somewhere else and we'll pick it up on Wednesday when we're there for her appointment.
We plan to start packing some of the items we won't need and will send them home with BJ when she comes up on Thursday. BJ is on vacation this week but is working at the house getting things ready for Becky to come home. Our other goal is to try and clean out the freezer here so we won't have to take so much back with us. I told Becky we might need a U-Haul anyway to get all the things home we've accumulated in the 2 + months we've been here.

Sept. 13 Day +59
We decided to go out to church this morning and found one on Kingshighway called Jubilee Church. We had looked it up on the internet and they had the same beliefs as we did so we went there this morning. It was a multicultural church and very interesting. The minister used Matt. 28:16-20 and Acts 1:8. He talked about how the church had to keep moving if we wer going to be followers of Jesus. If we aren't trying to change and bring others to Christ we will become like fossils or a dead church. There was a lot to think about.
We went to the 9am service, so we got home about 10:45 and without thinking about it being early, I started lunch. We had fried chicken breasts, green beans and corn on the cob. Becky played the keyboard while I fixed lunch and I enjoyed the music. I even enjoyed singing along. Becky couldn't sing since she had done so much at church that she was hoarse. She did get the voice back this afternoon though.
After lunch we settled down to watch some football and tennis and relax. We hope you all have had an enjoyable Lord's Day.

Sept. 12 Day +58

I skipped blogging for a day or two and have had several comments that I need to go back to daily so I will try and do that even if it's a short note. Yesterday we had BJ and Jessica visiting with us. We played some Wii bowling (Jessica won), had an outing with a meal out as well as visiting. It was a good day.
BJ brought a weighted keyboard from Sarah Pence at Glendale Christian Church that sounds more like a piano and has a sustain pedal. BJ and I found out what the "weighted" meant when we had to carry it!! She has been playing a regular keyboard that was provided by Mr. Grimm from Glendale too which she has appreciated. Becky sat down and played some yesterday and has been playing again this morning. She asked this morning, "Do you care if I play the keyboard?" Of course I said, "No, I really can't stand to hear you play! Ha! You know you don't have to ask my permission to play anytime!!" The Lord has really blessed her with a wonderful talent!
Today is going to be spent on the couch with tennis and baseball. We pray that all will have a great day in Worship tomorrow.

VISITATION GUIDELINES
For Becky's health we are providing these guidelines which the doctor's have given us:
Please do not visit if you now have or have had a cold, cough or fever in the last week.
If your child has had a live vaccine (MMR or Varicella) in the last month please do not bring them to visit.
If you have had the Shingles vaccine or any other "live" vaccine in the last month do not visit.
Please call before coming to visit. She is looking forward to seeing everyone again but may have days when she isn't feeling well and would prefer not to have company.
Hand sanitizer will be made available at the house when you come in, so please use it before making any contact with Becky. She is really susceptible to germs at this time.

Sept. 10 Day +56
Psalm 113:1-5 "Praise the Lord. Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord. Let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forever. From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised. The Lord is exalted over all the nations, his glory above the heavens."
We were awakened this morning to the sound of demolition at 6:30 am. There are 2 buildings being torn down near our apartment and they really get started early. They are also stirring up a lot of dust so she has to wear her mask if she goes out of the building.
Becky received a call this morning from the hospital saying that next Wed. she would have lab at 9 am a 4 hour IV infusion after that and then see the Nurse Practitioner. We were a little unsure of what was going on since the NP had said all the blood work was good yesterday. She called the NP and finally got a call back from her. She explained they had done a test, that we didn't know about, that measured her immune system and it is suppose to be about 700 and hers was only 349, so she needs some immunoglobulin which will help boost her immune system. Since they wiped out her immune system she will be real susceptible to any infection and with cold and flu season coming on, this will help her hopefully avoid any illnesses. She will receive one a month for 6 months but can get them in Springfield once she goes home. Becky is willing to do anything necessary to stay as healthy as possible.
This afternoon we went to the grocery store for a few items that we needed and she pushed the cart. Of course we washed the bar good with a Clorox Wipe before she started pushing. We didn't need too much so she did OK but headed to the car while I checked out. She really did well and I enjoyed the company in the store.

I Thessalonians 5:14,15 says, "Ane we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone. Make sure that noboby pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else." We saw this scripture in action this morning while we were at the hospital. After Becky's visit we were heading out and there was a sale in the hallway of jewelry and we stopped to look. Becky mentioned that one particular necklace was really pretty but then we headed on out. A lady named Gwen stopped us and asked if she could buy Becky the necklace. She said that she was doing a random act of kindness every day and wanted to get it for Becky or another one if she preferred something else. She had a friend who had lung cancer and came to the center for treatments and had worn a ballcap and mask like Becky. She sure demonstrated to us the love of God and also said she would be praying for Becky. Isn't God wonderful!!
Now on to the medical report. The nurse took almost 50 minutes today to get blood from the catheter and then only got one lumen to work. The nurse apologized to Becky for taking so long and Becky apologized to the nurse for the catheter being so stubborn but it wasn't either one of their faults. The nurse also changed the bandage on the site.
We were late for the appointment with the Nurse Practitioner and they had been looking for us. It wasn't too long before she came in once we got back to the room. Becky's vitals are still good and her weight remains stable. (I can't say the same for mine!!). The lab results were good with the hematocrit, hemoglobin and platelets going up just a little more from last week.
Becky is having a little sinus drainage and cough so the NP listened to her lungs carefully and wrote her a script for Claritin to take for the drainage. We have been walking outside more and there is also a lot of demolition going on in the area.
The NP said it wasn't necessary for her to wear her mask in the building or outside unless there was construction going on or if there was a crowd of people in close quarters with little ventilation. She also said she "could" drive if she felt like it. She doesn't think she's up to that yet though. We also got some instructions on who could visit when she got home and the only restrictions are if someone is running fever or sick (especially with flu season coming), or if a child has had a live virus immunization such as MMR or Varicella (chicken pox) or an adult that has received the Shingles vaccine within a month.
All in all she continues to do great and the Lord blesses daily.

Sept.7 Day +53
Psalm 89:1,2 says, "I will sing of the Lord's great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you established your faithfulness in heaven itself."
I said in last nights blog that I would have trouble getting Becky going this morning and I did but I also had trouble getting myself going. I woke up at 4:45 and rolled over and went back to sleep and finally got up at 7:30. It felt good to sleep in some. Of course it was a holiday!
We have been enjoying watching tennis today as well as the Cardinals playing baseball. Tim and his family came by this afternoon before they headed back to IN. They had spent the night downtown and had enjoyed going up in the Arch this morning, watching a Lewis and Clark film and riding a bicycle built for 6 along the riverfront. While Becky, Tim and Susan visited some the boys and NaNa played some games. We enjoyed seeing them and pray they have a safe trip home.
Not much other news from here. We didn't go walking today because there was a lot of traffic in the area due to the holiday and the Greek Festival at the end of the street. Tomorrows another day and we'll try to get outside then.

Sept. 6 Day +52
We have had a busy and enjoyable day with plenty of company. Jessica and Rachel got here this morning about 10:30 and we listened to Tim Grasham preach via internet. He had a message about the conversion of Paul and how God accepts us for who we are and where we are and can change our lives and use us for His service. We had communion together and then Becky played some on the keyboard.
After lunch we went down to the game room for a couple games of bowling and golf. We had a good time and enjoyed the company. Becky enjoys the Wii bowling but won't play the golf yet.
We came back to the room and Jessica took a nap while the rest of us watched tennis and talked.
About 4:15 Tim, Susan, Isaac, Riley and Eli came to visit. Eli had a cough and wasn't able to see Aunt Becky but NaNa got to be with him some in the game room and recreation room. The others got to see Aunt Becky for a few minutes. The grandsons enjoyed the Wii too. Jessica and Rachel headed back home about 5:15. They should be getting close to home by now. NaNa got to go to supper with Tim and family and Becky stayed at the apartment by herself for a couple hours. She did fine. She probably enjoyed a little time to herself anyway.
I may have a hard time getting Becky moving tomorrow after all the company today but we sure enjoyed them.
I may not blog every day now since she is doing so well. We'll wait and see. It seems to be getting harder to keep the blog interesting.
We decided to end with this Scripture tonight, "Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things." Philippians 4:8

Day +51 Sept. 5
We are so thankful to our God for all He has done and I was looking for a Scripture yesterday and the page opened to I Chronicles 16. This is a Psalm of Thanks that David wrote and it seemed to be speaking for us. It's longer than what I usually write but want to share it with you.
"Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced, O descendants of Israel his servant, O sons of Jacob, his chosen ones.
Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. We woke up this morning to the sound of thunder and rain. It rained all morning and into the afternoon. BJ got here about 11:15 and said she had driven through hard rain most of the way from Ozark. We have had a good visit with time spent playing Wii bowling (BJ won 1 and Barb won 1) and then golf with BJ winning again. Becky had a real curve going today on her bowling. Becky challenged BJ to Sequence and BJ won 3 and Becky won 2 I think. It was a relaxing and enjoyable day. BJ is heading back now so keep her in your prayers for safe travel.
Becky continues to feel good most of the time. She does still tire easily when doing any activity but stamina will come with time.
Jessica and Rachel are coming up tomorrow morning and should be here in time for our church service. We are planning on listening to Tim, Barb's son, in the morning and having the Lord's supper together as well as Becky play some on the keyboard. Tomorrow afternoon late Tim and his family are coming to visit for a while. We will be glad to see them.
We pray you may all have a wonderful day in the Lord's house tomorrow worshiping our Great and Awesome God.

Day +50 Sept. 4
Becky and I watched a DVD of Beth Moore today and she used 2 Samuel 6 & 7 as her text. Take time to read these chapters and the promise that God made to David and his family. David became angry with God and also feared God, but didn't stay in his despair but realized what God had done for him and the promises that he made to him and his heirs.
We have had a very lazy day today. We neither one have wanted to do much of anything. We have read, listened to the CD, and watched the US Open. Becky has also played some on the keyboard today. It is good to hear her play. Hopefully she will be back playing for church before long.
We have company coming off and on during the weekend and there is also a Greek Festival here. I think the festival is at the junction of Forest Park Ave. and Kingshighway which is really close. We were told it's a big deal and traffic will be busy, so to plan on delays if we're going anywhere. Please pray for safety for people coming to visit.

Day +49 September 3
Psalm 135:1-7 "Praise the Lord. Praise the name of the Lord; praise him you servants of the Lord, you who minister in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God.
Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant. For the Lord has chosen Jacob to be his own, Israel to be his treasured possession. I know that the Lord is great, that our Lord is greater than all gods. The Lord does whatever pleases him, in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depths. He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth; he sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses."
Dad was up and ready to go early this morning. They had breakfast about 6 and were on their way by 6:50. We really enjoyed their visit and he has called and they made it back to KY safely. We didn't get to do a whole lot in St. Louis but just had a good time visiting.
After they left Becky went back to bed until about 8:30 and then we had breakfast. I worked on laundry and other things until she got up. We went out to the Park about 11:15 and walked about 15 or 20 minutes and then drove through more of Forest Park. It is a huge park, over 1000 acres and has beautiful buildings, fountains, ponds and landscaping with plenty of gorgeous flowers. Becky thought we were lost but I kept driving and we eventually got on Lindell Ave. and found an Arby's for lunch and headed back to the apartment. We enjoyed out outing. She's getting stronger and walking better. She also got a different mask from the respiratory therapist yesterday that is not quite as tight but still has the protection and is easier for her to breath while wearing it.
This afternoon I finished laundry (an apartment size washer and dryer don't hold much at once) while we watched the Cardinals get beat by the Brewers and are now watching tennis. It's going to be an evening of tennis at the US Open for us.
Thanks for your continued interest in things here and for your prayers which we know are the reason she's doing so well. God is so Good to us!!!

Day + 48 September 2
2 Corinthians 9:13-15 " Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in thier prayers for you their hearts will go out to you because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!"
I thought I'd go on and blog early with the lab reports from today. Thank you all for the prayers for her reports to be better. PTL!! They were better today and she doesn't have to get the shot to increase her counts. Her Hemoglobin had increased from 10.1 to 10.5, Hematocrit from 29.0 to 30.2 and Platelets from 166 to 224. They are still a little low from normal on H & H but better and hopefully will keep going up.
The NP today was waiting on us when we got called back by the nurse for vitals. The NP actually took us back to the room and we were in there about 10 minutes and ready to go home. She said everything was going great and didn't see why, when she got to go home that she would only need to be back every 2 weeks instead of weekly. Of course Dr. DiPersio, the main doctor, has to approve of that but Becky is really excited.
She had the Pentamidine treatment and it took about 30 minutes. We didn't schedule another one because they're going to see if they can be done in Springfield instead of making the trip to St. Louis. If not, they will try and schedule it on the day she's in St. Louis to see the doctor. It will make for a long day but all things will be done in one trip.
As you can tell, we are excited with the report. GOD IS SO GOOD!!!!
Dad and Martha are planning on going home in the morning. We have enjoyed their visit. Pray for their safety in travel back to KY.

September 1 Day +47
Zephaniah 3:17 says, "The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing".
It has been a beautiful day here in St. Louis. We got up about 7, some of us before that, and had leisurely breakfast and visited. We decided since it was so beautiful out that we would drive over to Forest Park and walk for a while and then go out for lunch. We walked about 15 minutes and then drove through the park and went to Steak and Shake for lunch. We beat the lunch rush and had a very enjoyable lunch. We came back and turned on the US Open and also worked on some puzzles. We all had a good time looking up Scriptures for Bible Sudoku. It was like we used to do with Bible drills years ago. Barb's church in WV still does that some on Sunday night.
Dad and Martha brought country ham with them from KY and we enjoyed a meal of ham, mashed potatoes, lima beans, rolls and cantaloupe for supper. The dishwasher is doing it's job now. We thought about the ham affecting her labs tomorrow but didn't give it too much thought though as we chowed down.
Tonight looks like another night with the Cards. Dad teased that he wanted to go to the game but really has a better seat right here in the apartment. Tomorrow is lab and doctor visit day so pray that the labs will be better and she continues to get good reports.

August 31 Day 46
Our Dad suggested the Scripture for tonight, Philippians 4:19 " And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus". This has been shown to us over and over in our lives and He continues to provide each day.
Dad and Martha got here about 2 this afternoon and they had a safe trip and found us without any problem. They are planning on staying until Thursday and we're looking forward to the time we'll have with them. Dad refused to do the blog for me this evening. He finally has a cell phone but doesn't want to use a computer.
Barb spent the morning cleaning and getting ready for company and Becky took some time to write some emails and send some cards. After doing all that she was pretty shakey and learned that she can only do a few emails at a time and not over do it.
We had a big meal of roast, potatoes, carrots, onions, celery and rolls. We enjoyed it and have enough for leftovers tomorrow. I've cleaned up the kitchen and now we're going to watch some of the US Open Tennis Tournament and visit.

This has been a pretty quiet and restful day here in St. Louis. We listened to our brother Richard preach on Jesus and his encounter with Matthew today and how we need to get outside the walls of the church building to witness for Christ. We read Scripture and had communion together too.
I think we are going to have to replace the batteries in the remote after Becky spent the afternoon flipping between channels watching golf, the Little League World Series and the Cardinals. It was an enjoyable afternoon.
Not much else happening here. Becky continues to feel good and get stronger every day. The Lord continues to provide all our needs and gives blessing after blessing.
Our Dad and his wife are planning on coming to St. Louis tomorrow and we ask that you pray for their safety in traveling here. We are looking forward to thier visit.

Day +44 August 29

Our day started with Jim and Patti Moore from Barb's home in Hedgesville, WV stopping by for a little while on their way to visit their daughter and family in Summersville, MO. They are also taking the wheelchair home with them Barb brought since Becky no longer has any need of it. PTL. We enjoyed their time with us.
This afternoon we watched some of the Little League World Series (between rain delays), some
golf and some baseball. About 4 we had more company with Hope, Jessica, Rachel (Becky's daughters),and three of their friends Amy, Kristen, and Lindsay stopping by for a couple hours. We visited for a while and then all went to the game room to play Wii. There was some fierce competition in bowling and I think everyone had a good time. Everyone also liked the apartment (Loft). It is roomy, comfy, and as Norma said "a perfect place to heal". Becky is worn out this evening but has really enjoyed the company.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Linda Slager and her family today as they had Jack's funeral and burial in IL. He will be greatly missed not only by his family but also the church family at Glendale Christian Church.
We pray that you all may have a exciting day in the Lord's house tomorrow.

Day +43 August 28
Exodus 15:2 says, " The Lord is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise Him; my father's God and I will extol Him." We continue to rejoice at how the Lord is blessing Becky. He is truly the great Physician and we praise His name.
Today BJ came to visit and we had quite the contests. After a big lunch we rested for a little while and then headed to the exercise room. Becky did 11 minutes again on the treadmill and BJ did the weights a little and Barb did a little on the walking machine. Then it was off to the Wii. We did 2 games of bowling and 2 games of 3 holes of golf. We have to say that BJ was the winner of all the games. Becky gave her a real run on a couple of the games though. We had a good time. We again did the stairs down and back.
Later in the afternoon some friends from Springfield, Bob and Betty West, stopped by on their way to see family here in St. Louis. We enjoyed the time we had with them. It's so nice to see people from home.
BJ left about 6:25 to head back to Springfield. Becky and I are settling in for the Cardinal game against the Nationals. The Nationals are near Barb's home in WV but to avoid too much controversy I'll have to keep quiet tonight. Ha!

Day +42 August 27

Though an army beseige me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident. One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple."
We had another good day today. I tried to get Becky to go on an outing with me to the grocery store and the discount store but wasn't successful. She did get on the computer for a little while though while I was gone. This afternoon we had to watch the Cardinals and they got beat by the Astro's 4-3. The relievers just didn't do their job today. I guess everyone has a bad day once in a while.
After that we watched another video of Louie Giglio titled "Indescribable". He talked about the vastness of the universe that God SPOKE into being and how small and insignificant we are but God cared so much that He was willing to send His only Son to redeem us. He had pictures of the universe from the Hubbell Telescope that just blew us away with its vastness and his descriptions of it. How Great is Our God!!!
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Slager family and the Glendale Church family as they have visitation and a memorial service this evening.

She did get on the computer for a little while though while I was gone. After I got back we went to the exercise room and she walked at 2.0mph for 11 minutes and even walked up and down the stairs to get there. She seems to be getting stronger every day. August 26 Day +41
We only have one verse for this evening but it was taken from a message that we heard from Louie Giglio yesterday. He was talking about how trouble was going to come our way as a Christian but we can have peace because we know that there is hope since Christ has overcome the world. In John 16:33 Jesus says, "I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
We went to the hospital this morning for labs and to see the nurse practitioner. Jessica headed out at the same time so now it's just the two of us again. We really enjoyed having her here though. We decided to get a wheelchair but she pushed it and then she was going to ride if she got too tired. She walked all the way to the lab and the office and then we stopped at the gift shop for some cards and left the chair outside the door. She planned to ride back to the car but when we came out the chair was gone. She decided someone needed it worse than she did so she sat down and rested for about 10 minutes and then we walked on to the car. I did volunteer to go find a chair but she did fine.
The report from the labs was pretty good. Her Red blood cells was 3.10 (nl. 3.90-5.00), Hemoglobin 10.1 (nl. 12.1-15.1), Hematocrit 29.0 (nl. 36.1-44.3) and Platelets 166 (nl. 140-440).
These are all lower than the ones drawn on Friday and the NP explained it as the donor red cells trying to take over her cells that are already in her body and it can cause an anemia. If the hemoglobin count goes below 10 they can give her a medication to help reverse the process but insurance will not pay for it unless the count is below 10.
We did ask if she was already 100% donor marrow why she needs another biopsy in 3 months and she said it could always reverse and go back to her marrow and they also need to stage any cancer cells that may come back. She is in remission at this time though.
She will see the NP again next Wednesday, have labs and also have a Pentamadine antibiotic treatment to prevent pneumonia. If the counts are lower then she will also get another treatment to bring the counts up.
We got home from the hospital and rested a little before Debbie Nelson and Sara Carr came for a visit. These are friends of Becky's from Southland Christian Church in Springfield. They bought lunch at St. Louis Bread Co. and visited for a couple hours. We enjoyed their visit.
Becky finally laid down on the couch about 4:00 and slept until about 5:25. We had supper and are now going to watch a ball game tonight.
Pray that the blood counts will begin to increase on their own without the other medications and that she can continue to gain strength daily.

August 25 Day +40
II Cor. 1:3-7 "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort." We were saddened to learn that Becky's friend from Glendale Christian Church passed away early this afternoon. Please pray for his family as they deal with his loss. Although he will be missed, he has claimed the victory!
We have had problems all day with the computer so I hope this blog will get sent this evening. I'm not sure if it was human error on Jessica or my part or if the server was having problems. It finally started working about 5 this evening after the cable company did some kind of signal to our box.
We went to the exercise room this morning and Becky walked on the treadmill at 2.0 and went 11 minutes or .35 mile. That was the most she's done yet. We even walked down the stairs to get to the room too. She's doing better!!! Jessica was walking on the other treadmill until she walked right out of her shoe! It was actually a flip flop but we all got so tickled she had to stop walking. Barb did 2.5 miles on the bicycle. I"m not sure that we'll have time to do it tomorrow with the appointments in the morning and company coming at noon but we'll be walking some at the hospital.
Jessica has decided to spend another night with us and has just gotten back with supper from Applebee's. Becky had another craving for ribs and I can't fix them right here. We have really enjoyed having Jessica with us for a few days.
We'll report more tomorrow afternoon after the appointments.

Day +39 August 24,2009
II Corinthians 4: 16-18 "Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary but what is unseen is eternal".
I am blogging a little earlier this evening since I've received word that I'm blogging too late for those on the east coast to read before turning in for the night. I promised to try harder to get it done earlier so here goes.
We have had a good day today. We got up and had breakfast and Barb put on a pot of pinto beans for lunch that Becky requested. They cooked all morning and we ate beans, fried potatoes and onions, and corn bread for lunch. Good eating.
We went to the exercise room this morning and Becky walked 11 minutes on the treadmill, Jessica did the stepper machine and Barb did the bicycle. After that we went and played Wii. Jessica had the advantage with experience so she beat us in every game. We played bowling, tennis and baseball. We all enjoyed it. Becky said her arms were probably going to be sore tomorrow.
After lunch we just relaxed and visited. We did watch Louie Giglio speak on "Hope" and how we have Jesus as an anchor in trouble and we can use our troubles as a megaphone to proclaim the love of Jesus to others. It was a very good lesson for us to hear.
We received word through the prayer chain and also through Jason Slager, through Jessica, that Jack Slager, a friend from the church at Glendale, was admitted to ICU at St. John's in Springfield. Please remember him and his family in your prayers also. He is not doing well.
Jessica is insisting on vacation so I am back on the job blogging again. Hope you have a good and Godly evening.

I(Jessica) have been voted as the guest blogger for tonight. I go on vacation, and they put me to work!!
Today has been a good day! We all got up to the sun shining and were able to listen to my cousin, Tim(Aunt B's son) preach online from Community Christian Church in Frankfort, Indiana. I was proud to hear my cousin preach on Jesus the Revolutionary. We all really enjoyed the sermon, communion, and Mom even sat down at the keyboard to play a few songs.
Aunt B cooked a wonderful meal for lunch. We had pork chops, salad, and macaroni and cheese. After lunch we all sat down to enjoy the Solheim Cup. I can't believe I actually enjoyed watching golf on T.V.!
After a restful afternoon, we had dinner and Mom is getting ready to beat Aunt B and I in a game of Sequence...or so she says!! HA! We are such a competitive family!

DAY + 37 AUGUST 22
Psalm 103:1-5 "Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's."
I'll begin with a report on the steak dinner last night. Becky was so tired after the trip to the hospital and all the walking that she did, that she wasn't up to going out for dinner. BJ called Jan, a friend here in St. Louis, to see if there was a good steak place that we could go get it and bring it back here. She said a Friday night wasn't a good time since there was a football game downtown and the other places would be really busy. She volunteered to get steaks and grill them and bring them here. After some discussion back and forth, Jan brought steak, grilled veggies, brauts, and salad and Barb fixed baked potatoes. It was a much better steak dinner than we could ever have gotten at a restaurant and there was even enough to have for lunch and supper today. A big thanks to Jan for a great meal.
Today Jessica, Becky's daughter, came for a visit for a few days of her vacation. We went out this afternoon to the park and walked 10 to 15 minutes and then I brought her and Jessica back to the apartment and I went to get a few other items from the store that we needed. She is still recuperating from the long walks yesterday but we did enjoy the cooler weather and the walk in the park. It was interesting that there were more men in the park sunbathing than women.
The TV has been on the Solheim Cup, women's golf, all day long. It's a competition between the USA and Europe. We can't play the game but enjoy watching it. Go USA!!

August 21 Day +36
Psalm 139:13-16 " For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mohter's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I waas made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body."
We are really praising the Lord this afternoon after seeing the Nurse Practioner. The report is 99.5% (they mean 100%) donor cells in her bone marrow which means the transplant worked!!
They never did find the blood culture report but she said they would have called if there had been an infection present and put her on another antibiotic.
They again had trouble getting blood from the catheter and were only able to get blood from one of the three lumens but they all flushed good again. The labs showed the platelets at 179 up from 162 and the Hemoglobin 10.4 and Hematocrit 30.5 which are lower than last week but still nothing to cause a problem.
Her blood pressure was improved, the pulse better and the tremors have decreased so the Atenolol is working like it's suppose to. She wondered about stopping the Atenolol but since that's what's helping she'll be staying on it for now.
She walked to the office from the parking garage and from one side of the seventh floor to the other twice and back to the parking garage so she is pretty wiped out right now. BJ was here for the day and went to the appointments with us and now they are both resting. Becky was feeling a little nauseated so she took a half a Phenergan. We were going to go out and celebrate with a steak dinner but not too sure about that now.
She will continue to see the Nurse Practitioner weekly for the next month and then see Dr. DiPersio on Sept. 21 and if all goes well between now and then, should be able to go home after that. She will have to make weekly trips for lab until the 100 day mark, when she will have another bone marrow biopsy and PET Scan, and then will go to every 2 weeks to St. Louis and the week in between to see Dr. Hoos in Springfield. They may take the catheter out before she leaves St. Louis if she avoids the CMV virus. Always an "IF" but right now things look good.

We are really praising the Lord this afternoon after seeing the Nurse Practioner. The report is 99.5% (they mean 100%) donor cells in her bone marrow which means the transplant worked!!
They never did find the blood culture report but she said they would have called if there had been an infection present and put her on another antibiotic.
They again had trouble getting blood from the catheter and were only able to get blood from one of the three lumens but they all flushed good again. The labs showed the platelets at 179 up from 162 and the Hemoglobin 10.4 and Hematocrit 30.5 which are lower than last week but still nothing to cause a problem.
Her blood pressure was improved, the pulse better and the tremors have decreased so the Atenolol is working like it's suppose to. She wondered about stopping the Atenolol but since that's what's helping she'll be staying on it for now.
She walked to the office from the parking garage and from one side of the seventh floor to the other twice and back to the parking garage so she is pretty wiped out right now. BJ was here for the day and went to the appointments with us and now they are both resting. Becky was feeling a little nauseated so she took a half a Phenergan. We were going to go out and celebrate with a steak dinner but not too sure about that now.

August 20 Day +35
Psalm 89:15,16 "Blessed are those who walk in the light of Your presence, O Lord. They rejoice in Your name all day long; they exult in Your righteousness."
A special "Happy Birthday" message to Rachel, Becky's daughter, who turned 29 today. We love you.
There was a terrible storm during the night with a lot of thunder and lightening but Becky slept well because she didn't hear any of it. Wish I could say the same for myself.
It was sunny again before we got around this morning so we did the treadmill in the exercise room again. We walked down the steps to the first floor which was something new for her. She walked almost 10 minutes this morning and then her legs just buckled and she hit the STOP button. We went back this afternoon but she had some stomach upset so was only able to do 6 minutes before we had to head back to the apartment. She did walk a little faster coming back which was good.
She seems to be getting a little stronger and people who call mention that she sounds stronger in her voice. Each day is a new challenge to do more. I'm not sure how much we'll exercise tomorrow because of the appointments at the hospital. She has lab at 12:45 and sees the ANP at 1:30. Hopefully we'll get the blood culture reports as well as some of the bone marrow test results. We'll let you know what we find out.

Aug.19 Day +34

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart."
We have had a relatively quiet day today. Becky doesn't get going too well early in the morning so it was getting pretty warm before we were able to head out to the park so we had to scratch that idea for today. Hopefully the weather will cool off soon and we can go out later in the day.
After lunch we did go down to the exercise room in the apartment complex and, after cleaning off the equipment with a Clorox wipe, Becky walked on the treadmill for about 6 minutes which is a long time for her. Maybe we can set a goal for 8 minutes tomorrow. I did my time on the bicycle which was next to the treadmill just in case she had problems. She did fine but was worn out by the time we walked back to the room.
While I was fixing supper, she again had a bout with nausea. I really don't think my cookings that bad! I got her a half a Phenergan but she ended up vomiting a little bit and then felt better. The nurse had said on Monday that she felt the nausea could be graft versus host disease but wasn't sure. She did eat a little supper without any problem.
Becky is now setttled in on the couch for the evening. We just finished watching the Warner Robbins, GA girls win the Softball Little League World Series. The Cards don't play until 9 so we'll have to find something else to watch tonight. We have some movies if there's nothing on TV.

August 18 Day +33
Nehemiah 9:6 says, "Blessed be your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise. You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you."
I couldn't sleep last night so I got up and watched the Cardinals beat the Dodgers. Becky couldn't believe that I stayed up for the ballgame. She was snoozing soon after she hit the bed. She said this morning that she slept well last night.
I went over to the hospital this morning and picked up her blood pressure medicine so she could get started on it. She got cleaned up while I was gone and then we rested for a while. It was so nice and cool when I walked to the hospital that I decided to get Becky out and go to the park for a walk. We had started the dishwasher and it took a lot longer than we thought so it was noon before we got started. While we were waiting, she played the keyboard and we sang some.
When we finally got to the park the sun was shining bright and it was beginning to get pretty warm. We stopped near an area that had a lot of trees where we could walk in the shade and headed toward the lake. There were a lot of geese by the lake and as we headed their way, they started heading our way probably thinking we were going to feed them. We decided to reverse course quickly and when we turned around so did the geese.
After the walk we decided to go to Sonic for lunch and enjoyed burgers, tater tots and onion rings
and 44 ounces of orangeade and limeade. Barb was able to finish her drink but Becky got about 28 ounces down and had to quit. That's not bad though. We enjoyed our outing but Becky was pretty tired when we got back and we sat on the couch and did puzzles and watched TV this afternoon.
Not much else going on from here now. We are hoping to get out earlier tomorrow for our walk in the park. The doctors and nurses keep saying that "the more exercise the less fatigue she'll feel". Becky said she didn't know how they could tell that since none of them have had a transplant!!

Aug. 17 Day +32
Mark 1:35 says, " And in the early morning, while it was still dark, he arose and went out and departed to a lonely place, and was praying there." This scripture shows us how important prayer was to Jesus that he would arise early and go to a lonely place to talk with His Father. If it was that important for Him, how much more should it be for us to talk to our Heavenly Father too.
It was a long day for us today. We decided to take the car today because it looked like rain and it's a good thing we did. It started raining before we got out of the garage and was raining when we got back home. There was a real "gully washer" after we got into the apartment and it's still raining.
We got to the Lab about 9 and they were able to get the blood work done by 9:30. They had a little trouble but were able to get all 3 flushed. We got to the Bone Marrow Biopsy room about 9:50 and Becky decided she wanted Versed (the doctor called it an amnesia drug) so the procedure wouldn't hurt as bad. They finally got started about 10:10. Becky was awake and talked to him during the procedure but, true to it's purpose, she doesn't remember anything about it.
Her next appointment was at 11:15 and it was a good thing we had the wheelchair because she was pretty groggy and needed the help. We finally got in a room to see the doctor about 12:00. We saw the nurse about 12:15 and then he finally came in about 12:45. Becky was telling him that when she got back from the bathroom she had a chill and he jumped right on that and said her departure from the hospital was going to be delayed. He did say that her labs are better with the platelets now at 162 and normal is above 140. Everything else was good on the CBC but the Creatinine was up which is an indicator of kidney function and hydration. Also her blood pressure remained elevated at 151/90.
The doctor decided to decrease her CellCept (antirejection drug) from 2 twice a day to 1 twice a day and the Tacrolimus from 1mg in am and 0.5mg in PM to 0.5mg in AM and PM . He is also going to start her on a blood pressure medication that hopefully will help with the tremors too. They didn't have it in the pharmacy but I'll go pick it up in the morning. She will go back for bloodwork and see the Nurse Practitioner on Friday afternoon.
Since she was having the chills, he sent her over for blood cultures to be run. The nurse wasn't thrilled to see her returning because she has so much trouble getting blood. The cultures had to be done from the port catheter as well as her arm today. The nurse said she was off Friday and Monday and Sept. 11 if Becky could schedule her labs for those days. She was just teasing, we think. After the blood cultures she had to go to have a dose of IV antibiotics. We finally got home about 3:25.
She is thoroughly exhausted this evening. We came home and I fixed "lupper" and we both ate like we were starved, which we were! I think we are going to rest this evening and do nothing.
